An everyday green tea that blends Japanese sencha leaves with roasted brown rice. Genmaicha was traditionally a tea for the common man in Japan, because the rice acted as a "filler" to stretch meager amounts of tea leaves.

Brown rice is added to the tea during its final roasting, giving it a unique nuttiness. Because the heat of the roaster causes some of the rice to pop, this tea is sometimes referred to as "popcorn tea".

  • Brewing Guide

Genmaicha is very easy to brew, as the flavor of the roasted rice tends to mask any bitterness or astringency if the tea were to be left steeping for too long.

To steep individual servings of this tea, use 4 grams of tea leaves and steep at 185 degrees for 1 minute. Do not exceed 2 minutes, or the graininess of the rice can throw the tea off-balance.
